Seekonk Real Estate ownership.
Seekonk Real Estate   The name Seekonk is said to have been the Indian name (spelled any one of some 20 ways) meaning "the place of the black water fowl", actually geese. Seekonk has preserved an ancient name. Seekonk is a suburban community on

the Rhode Island border. It was incorporated in 1812 from the western half of Rehoboth and contains rolling hills with extensive swamp acreage in the central portions of the town.

Seekonk has remained basically agricultural in the 20th century, although The Kent Manufacturing Company did make tennis racquets and croquet sets on the upper reaches of the Ten Mile River. With the opening of the Providence and Taunton Street railway in 1891, Seekonk has become increasingly a residential suburb of Providence.

Seekonk, which is located in Bristol County, Massachusetts is 37 miles south of Boston; 40 miles southeast of Worcester; 4miles east of Providence, Rhode Island; and 184 miles from New York City. Seekonk's total area is 18.42 sq. miles and the latest census showed a population of about 13,000 residents.

The Simeon Martin House is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Grist Mill, used to be a working mill, and is now a restaurant.

The Taunton-Attleboro region, where Seekonk is located, has excellent highway facilities. Interstate 495, was especially well designed south of Boston and provides access to Interstate 90 to the northwest and to U.S. Route 6, the Mid-Cape Highway, to the southeast. Interstate 95 and the Fall River Expressway (State Route 24) provide access to the airport, port, and Inter modal facilities of Boston and Providence.

Principal highways are State Route 152; Interstate 195 and U.S. Route 6, which link the southern coastal cities and towns; and U.S. Route 44, which runs roughly E-W between Plymouth and Providence, Rhode Island. Interstate Route 95 is accessible in the neighboring town of Attleboro. Commuter rail service to Back Bay Station and South Station, Boston, is available from South Attleboro Station in the adjacent town of Attleboro. Travel time to Back Bay Station is 45-56 minutes.

Seekonk has three excellent elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

If commerce by-passed Seekonk in earlier days that is no longer true. The Seekonk area on Route 6 between Swansea and East Providence has seen a burgeoning of recreation and shopping places and commercial business such as trucking, all along its length.

Seekonk is recreating itself in many ways; it is well known for its four distinct seasons and provides a variety of activities for the active person who enjoys golf, tennis, swimming, and skiing.
